A battery only requires a little monthly maintenance to perform perfectly.
Fully sealed MF motorcycle batteries (with glass-mat separators) retain charge in storage better than other starter batteries but are more difficult to recover once truly deep-discharged. Therefore correctly maintaining your battery is essential to long-term battery life.
Keep the battery charged to 100%, recharging when the lights are weak, the starter sounds weak, or the battery has had no use for more than two weeks. We recommend using maintenance chargers which will automatically charge and monitor your battery without risk of over-charging.
The warmer the storage ambient temperature the faster the battery's tendency to self-discharge. Batteries not in regular use, which for any reason cannot be maintained by a good maintenance charger, are best stored in cool places, NOT Freezing!
If you know that the battery will not be used for several weeks or months it is best to remove it from the vehicle to eliminate drain from electrical equipment and allow for maintenance by an appropriate charger.
It is universally advised by all battery manufacturers that batteries are best kept fully charged at all times.
All batteries have a finite life-span, often referred to by manufacturers in terms such as "400 duty-cycles" (under certain specified procedures of use & recharging). Maintaining the battery fully charged throughout periods of non-use therefore avoids using up some of the battery's "lives".
Smart maintenance type chargers, which charge when sensing that the battery's voltage is starting to drop are highly recommended and should be part of your battery maintenance.
